I’ve made a variation of this flapjack this week, adding some marmalade as I didn’t have any lemons. I’m using some lovely New Zealand oranges in our salads at the moment as tomatoes aren’t in season. There’s still plenty of rocket and mizuna in the garden for greens. And prolific parsley makes a perfect winter salsa verde or pesto to spread on sandwiches, serve with cold roast or with which to make pesto pinwheels. I’ve added cherry anise syrup to my drinks repertoire. I’m thinking about an orange and clove syrup next – just like those pomanders.
I hear good things about My Food Bag from those who’ve tried it. Not for us as we now have Hero in the freezer along with a few venison steaks. I’ve tried the new variation on Whittaker’s peanut slab but I think I’ll stick to their creamy milk chocolate blocks.
The new Kings Seeds catalogue is now available. Just the right time to be choosing your new seeds for the next season on a cold wet winter evening. They arrive very speedily once you’ve ordered and the re-vamped website is much easier to use.
Lots to see and enjoy at the NZ International Film Festival in Wellington from Friday 25 July 2014.
