fresh food garden course Saturday 5 March 2011

Disappointed with your edible garden this summer? Want some inspiration for next season? Looking for ideas on what to grow through the winter? Join us on the fresh food garden course – a half-day vegetable gardening course. Saturday 5 March 20011, 12 noon until 5.30pm. $120 per person.

If you’re the first person to book and pay on-line for two people you’ll pay the discounted price of $200. So bring a friend and enjoy an afternoon in the countryside together, less than half an hour’s drive from Wellington CBD.

If you’re a beginner you’ll get everything you need to know to make your first attempts successful ones. If you have some gardening experience you’ll get techniques, tips and tools to make your life easier. And if you just want to regain your enthusiasm for growing your own food or reduce your reliance on chemicals, this is for you too. Improving the soil, composting, mulching, green manure, starting plants, seed sowing, natural pest control, weeding, watering, crop rotation, organic fertilisers, gardening in the wind, growing vertically plus all your questions answered. You’ll see all the techniques demonstrated and get lots of ideas on what to grow and how to grow it so that you enjoy producing your own food.

You might have a shelf full of books and a coffee table laden with gardening magazines but this course will be more effective at getting your garden going.  Previous participants said:

“informal, friendly but very informative. Not at all daunting!”
“excellent for getting started on vegetable gardening – lots of personal attention”
“informative, fun and in a great location”

More questions and answers about the course and on-line bookings here.

If you live near Woodville, or know a gardener who does, would you be willing to help the Kumeroa / Hopelands school with its garden? It’s a cute little three-teacher school with only 62 students. An enthusiastic new teacher would value your help. Please email me in the first instance if you think you might be able to help.
