my dog has no nose

tessSo how does she smell?

Amazingly good since I’ve sprayed her with EM-A spray.

An old joke I know, but Effective Micro-organisms work in chook houses, compost heaps, dirty ponds and septic tanks too. The spray contains the same active ingredients that work so well in a Bokashi bucket. I’ve only got one dog so it’s hard to do a controlled test of whether this really works, but the anecdotal evidence is positive.

I bought some more seeds to sprout in jars on the draining board as the radish and fenugreek were so good – sunflower, peas and mung beans this time, from the Hawke’s Bay farmers’ market. I added some radish sprouts to a winter salad of chicory, mizuna, mustard, rocket and mibuna leaves I served with left over hare and spinach curry for lunch. Curry is even better the next day for some reason.

The days have definitely started getting longer so if your chooks have not been laying for a while, now’s the time they might think about starting again.

If you have a young soccer fanatic in the house who shows less enthusiasm for reading, he or she may enjoy Mal Peet’s ‘Keeper‘. I loved it and learned more about the beautiful game. I’m also tempted by A Second Helping: More from Ladies, a Plate, the sequel to Ladies, a Plate: Traditional Home Baking, more delicious home baking. Is it possible to have too many cook books?
